Ratle Hydroelectricity Project

Ratle hydroelectric project is built on the Chenab River in Drabshalla village of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir (Union Territory). It installed capacity is 850 MW The Ratle Project is being executed by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL), a Joint Venture of NHPC Limited (a Navratan company) and Government of J&K, with shareholding of 51:49 percent, respectively.

Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, to make the Project viable, will extend exemption from levy of Water Usage Charges for 10 years after commissioning of the project, reimbursement of State’s share of GST (i.e. SGST) and waiver of free power to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a decremented manner, i.e., the free power to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir would be 1% in the 1st year after commissioning of the Project and rising @1% per year to 12% in the 12th year.

Kishenganga Hydroelectricity Project

Kishenganga hydroelectricity project on Kishenganga river, a tributary of Jhelum is situated in Dharmahama village in Bandipore district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The power station was commissioned in the year of 2018. The installed capacity of all the three units of the project is 330 MW. It is a Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam (CFRD). It has a maximum height of 37m, a crest length of 146m and a minimum crest width of 10m and the spillway on left of the dam has a 2000m3/sec capacity.

Beneficiary states and UT of the project are Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir.  Pelton turbines are used to generate electricity in this project. Kishenganga HE project was also improvised by NHPC.
