Important Facts

  • Fatima Sheikh is regarded as the first Muslim women teacher of India. She was considered as the right hand of Savitribai Phule. Reverend Savitribai Phule opened first school for girls in India in 1848.
  • National Education Day is celebrated on 11th November to commemorate the birth anniversary of first education minister of Independent India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Azad was a visionary and laid the foundation of education system in India by establishing University Grant Commission and Indian Institutes of Technology. He was passed away on 22nd February 1958. In recognition to his excellent contribution, Government of India conferred him with Bharat Ratan, India’s highest civilian award.
